A sequel series toCluelessis currently in development with Alicia Silverstone set to reprise her iconic role of Cher Horowitz, and Silverstone has revealed some major details about the changes to Cher’s character. Not many details about the new show’s plot have been revealed yet, but it will premiere on Peacock at a currently unknown date.
TheCluelesssequel was officially announced in April. Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, and Jordan Weiss are serving as writers for the Peacock series, while Silverstone is acting as an executive producer, in addition to starring. The originalCluelessfilm, a loosemovie adaptation ofEmmaby Jane Austen, was released on July 19, 2025, and grossed $88 million against a $12 million budget.
During an exclusive chat withEntertainment Tonight, Silverstone revealed that Cher is not the same as the girl the audience fell in love with in 1995. The acclaimed actress stated that Cher is not up with the times, and isn’t interested in new clothes, instead leaning towards going vintage. Check out Silverstone’s comments below:
I can’t wait to step back into Cher’s skin and her fancy designer shoes that will be gently used, of course, duh, because she’s evolved. This is 2025, she’s not wearing the new stuff unless it’s sustainable or vegan. We’ll have to see how far we can go with that.
It’s very early stages. I’m obviously excited. I never thought that, that was something that I would ever do because I wouldn’t wanna mess up this thing that we all love so much. We will do our very best to honor the original movie that we love and also bring something new to it. That’s the goal, and I believe we will execute that goal.
What This Means For The Clueless Sequel Series
InClueless, Cher was the most popular girl in school, and was always up with the latest fashion trends. Based on Silverstone’s statements, it seems Cher may be a person who lives in the past, much unlike her teenage self.
Also, based on theEntertainment Tonightinterview, it seems likely that Cher could still be somewhat similar to her past self, causing her to not fit into the modern world. It feels as though Cher’s distinct valley-girl personality made her likable in 1995, but having the same attitude she did in the original film may alienate her. No details about Cher’s modern life have been confirmed.
Our Take On Cher’s Evolving Character
Cher is a character that is still deeply ingrained into pop culture years later, so seeing her being a person that no longer values modern living could be a nice change. It should be great fun to see Cher adjust to the modern world and see how her life has changed since the original movie, which is a'90s movie that gets better with every rewatch.
While some may thinkCluelessaged badly, it will be nice for the audience to be with a character who has a lot of their original traits, but in a new, evolved way. Whatever the writers may conjure up, there is no doubt that Silverstone will deliver with a strong performance in the newCluelessshow.
