Call of Duty: WW2has added Shipment 1944 to its selection of multiplayer maps starting this weekend. The map is a revamped version of a popular map fromCall of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, only with a World War 2 twist.
Some will remember Shipment as the map with all of the shipping containers fromModern Warfare. It was relatively small, tight quarters, which worked well for the fast pace of Infinity Ward’s revolutionary multiplayer. ForCall of Duty: WW2, it will be interesting to see how Shipment 1944 gels with the current meta.
Based on the launch trailer for the newCall of Duty: WW2map, it seems like Sledgehammer Games is preserving the spirit of Shipment with the tight quarters and dangerous corners. Players will need to move with caution because they don’t know who is lurking just a few feet away.
The good news is thatWW2has gone back toCall of Duty’s roots withboots on the ground multiplayer gameplay, meaning players’ sight lines will be focused level with the ground. There is no need to worry about players flying in from above, or making acrobatic wall jumps to flank up and over the player. That’s probably why Sledgehammer chose to remake Shipment; it suits a more traditional style ofCall of Dutymultiplayer.
By and large, Sledgehammer’s focus has been on trying to giveCall of Dutyplayers the same sensations they remember from the series’ early years. Obviouslygoing back to WW2is something that fans have been interested in for a while, and sales suggest that Activision made a wise choice in moving away from the futuristic settings and bombastic gameplay.
That being said, there are still those that feelCall of Duty: WW2fell short of expectations in the multiplayer department. The game certainly hasn’t resonated with the streaming community and plenty fans have fallen off the game since its launch, even though thegame sold very well. Still, the yearlong support is going to happen regardless, so maybe familiar maps like Shipment 1944 will be enough to bring wayward fans back.
Call of Duty: WW2is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
