Gearbox’s PAX East event was packed full ofBorderlandsannouncements including aBorderlands 24K update free DLC release for VR, as well as thehighly anticipated reveal ofBorderlands 3. Caught up in the mix but no less exciting is that the originalBorderlandswill be receiving a major update and remaster. Even better, thisBorderlands: Game of the Year Editionis releasing on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on April 3, with an automatic free PC update coming to current owners at the same time.
WhileGearbox CEO Randy Pitchfordwas able to bring out some of the developers working on the project, the trailer was never fully shown. Luckily, the trailer was soon released to YouTube for all to view.
TheBorderlands: Game of the Yeartrailer showcases some of the great action and humor of the original game. More than that, it confirms all of the content and new features to be included in the package. The baseBorderlandsgame and its four big DLC releases are included, along with 4K resolution support and other visual upgrades, new weapons and character heads, as well as support for Shift codes including gold chests and keys.
Small quality-of-life changes to gameplay will also be made in theBorderlands: Game of the Yearrelease. For example, the remaster adds a mini-map toggle like inBorderlands 2, automatic health and ammo pick up, and the game’s notoriously frustrating inventory will be optimized.
PAX East presentation hiccups aside, it has been a very good day forBorderlandsand Gearbox. The originalBorderlandsis getting overhauled and re-released on PS4 and Xbox One,Borderlands 2andBorderlands: The Pre-Sequelare getting visual updates, andBorderlands 3development has officially been confirmed. Even a tabletop game namedBorderlands: Tiny Tina’s Robot Tea Partywas revealed. If onlyTales from the Borderlandsgot some love, too. Expect much moreBorderlands-related information in the months to come, with all eyes set on E3 2019 in June.
