Following Gearbox Software’s recent panel at PAX East 2019, it’s safe to presume that there are plenty ofBorderlandsfans pining away for the first-person shooter series' forthcoming installment, withBorderlands 3set to release this September. Until the third numbered entry drops, however, many fans of the franchise are likely revisiting past titles, such asBorderlands: Game of the Year Edition. Speaking of which, one player decided that fans ofBorderlands: GotYshould be able to experience it in third-person, so they made a mod adding the perspective.

Thanks to the work of the modder known as “LordEmil1”, players ofBorderlands: Game of the Year Editionon PC can take on the title with the “Third Person Mode” mod and see what it’s like to play through the game with their chosen character class in full view. Should one not want to go into third-person with a keyboard and mouse, the mod’s creator has assured those who download and apply it that the mod also supports controllers.

According to LordEmil1, aiming while having theBorderlands: Game of the Year EditionThird Person Mode mod enabled isn’t always perfect, so players may need to switch back to first person for a few seconds in order to “reset” their aim every 30 minutes to an hour. Also, the mod’s creator provides a tip forBorderlandsplayers to be a little further away from enemies than they expect in order to properly execute a melee attack.

Interestingly enough, LordEmil1’s Third Person Mode mode forBorderlands: Game of the Year Editionisn’t the first instance of a game in the series getting an over-the-shoulder perspective mod. As it so happens,Borderlands: The Pre-Sequelhas a third-person mod, too.

All things considered, there’s a good chance that manyBorderlandsfans will return to their copies of theGame of the Year Editionto give the Third Person Mode mod a go, especially since it looks quite well done in action. Whether or not its novelty will sate them untilBorderlands 3’s arrival is a different story altogether, though.

Borderlands: Game of the Year Editionis available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
