TheBorderlandsfranchise is well known for its humor, distinct artistic style, and a ludicrous number of guns. Most of the weapons in the series are generated from a random combination of traits and manufacturers, for an endless array of options. Those guns are, of course, tons of fun to use, each one bringing something unique to the table, like the elemental Maliwan guns or explosive Torgue options.

Once in a while, though, a gun will drop with some special properties. Often combined with red flavor text and a unique name, these special guns are always fun to try out. Some special guns are more powerful options for intrepid Vault Hunters. OtherBorderlandsweapons are more outlandish, withfeatures that make them anything from a little weird to downright ridiculous.

10All The Talking Guns

Like 1340 Shotgun, The Bane, Cutie Killer, And Mollie’s Lust

At first glance, the 1340 Shotgun isn’t very different from a typical blue-rarity Hyperion weapon. Players can acquire it by giving an AI core of an abandoned EXP Loader to the weapons seller Marcus inBorderlands 2. This transplants the AI’s personality into the gun, which, according to red flavor text that simply states"I like being a gun,“the core quite enjoys. As players run and gun it through the brutal game world, the shotgun is there to keep them company, offering helpful comments like"ratatatatata"and"Why’d we stop shooting?”

Borderlandshas several otherguns that speak or yell at players when they use them. For instance, Bane fromBL2will continuously scream as you shoot, while theBorderlands: The Pre-Sequelscreams"KILL KILL KILL" in a high-pitched voice the entire time that you use it. But the “most inappropriate gun inBorderlands” award has to go to Mollie’s Lust, a rocket launcher that moans and “encourages” the player. Maybe don’t use this one when the folks are around.

9Unkempt Harold

Are you tired of your shots only firing one bullet that stays as one for its entire flight? Lucky for you,the Unkempt Harold doesn’t abide by the rules of physics or logic.Instead of firing just one shot, this Torgue pistol fires three shots, which split mid-air into 5 and then 7.

This gun shows up in bothBorderlands 2and3,with the following red text:

Both these lines and the gun’s name arereferences to the 1971 Clint Eastwood movieDirty Harry. This pistol might be an oddity in the way it behaves, but it’s also a great example of themany Easter eggs and referencespeppered throughout the games.

8Ahab

Wipe Out Any Nearby Whales

The baseBorderlandsgames have their share of fun weapons and equipment, but theDLCs added ever more goodies to play with. The Ahab is a Seraph weapon and part of thePirate’s BootyDLC fromBorderlands 2,which featured plenty ofseafaring references.

As a Torgue weapon, the Ahab shoots explosive projectiles, but as a Pirate’s Booty weapon, these projectiles are actually harpoons. The rocket launcher is a reference to Captain Ahab from Herman Melville’s classic novelMoby-Dick.The flavor text is"for hate’s sake,“which is part of the book’s last sentence, “From hell’s heart I stab at thee; for hate’s sake I spit my last breath at thee.”

7Kitten

Wipe That Smile Off Your Enemies' Faces

Series regularMad Moxxi has amassed an entire arsenal of weapons, with some (likeMad Moxxi’s Good Touch) adding elements that are too inappropriate to explain here. The Vladof assault rifle Kitten, which shows up inBorderlands 2,doesn’t seem to have anything different about it besides the bright purple color. But this color and the flavor text give players a preview of the gun’s unique properties: “We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”

If you haven’t guessed it already, this gun is a reference to the Cheshire Cat inAlice in Wonderland, which becomes clear when you realize that the bullets fire in the shape of a smiley face. There are other uniquely shaped projectiles in the games, like Moxxi’s Heart Breaker, which fires rounds in the shape of a heart, Teeth of Terramorphous, whose shots form two horizontal lines that close on enemies like teeth, and Moonface, which has a similar smiley face pattern as the Kitten.

6Baby Maker

The Gun That Spawns Offsprings

Some weapons inBorderlandsricochet or spawn more bullets upon hitting something. This is especially true of grenades, some of which cancreate “child” grenades that do additional damagewhen they burst in the aftermath of the main explosion. But the aptly named Baby Maker has a different take on this concept, hinted at in the gun’s flavor text, which reads “Who’s a widdle gunny wunny!!!”

Like most Tediore weapons, theBorderlands 2SMG is thrown upon reload, exploding wherever it hits. Unlike most weapons, the Baby Makerspawns a baby version of itself when it explodes,a miniature version identical to the original gun, which then also explodes, which you may see in a YouTube video fromSLump. Sometimes this is repeated two or three times, for a silly chain reaction of tiny explosive guns.

5Fibber

The Gun That Lies To You

When you first get this gun as a reward for completing the “A Real Boy: Human” mission inBorderlands 2, it seems amazing. The Hyperion-made pistol boasts incredibly high damage and magazine sizes, upwards to the thousands, and anamazing boost of +3000% damage. It’s just too bad thatnone of the numbers are true.

The Fibber is also one of only a handful of guns inBorderlands 2that has white flavor text that says “+50% love,” which seems to have absolutely no effect on the game.

This gun has red flavor text that asks,“Would I lie to you?“The answer, apparently, is yes, becauseevery one of those stats is a lie. The Fibber’s color scheme (as well as the quest it relates to) isinspired byPinocchio, whose nose grew bigger the more he lied. The gun gets more accurate, not bigger, the more you shoot it, which you’ll have to do in order to figure out which of its three variants you actually have

4Boo+

“Guns With Legs? We Got You, Boo.”

TheBorderlands 3Developer Trailer revealed a lot of fun gameplay and story elements set to arrive in the game when it was shared on YouTube by the officialBorderlandschannel in 2019. The most memorable moment of the video, though, was the brief mention of the Boo+ gun.

A variant of this fan-favorite running gun seems to bereturning inBorderlands 4,which shows a similar gun with tiny legs, captioned “Cute?”

The trailer boasts over a billion guns, then goes on to note: “Guns with legs? We got you, boo.” This is accompanied by a brief clip ofa gun with adorable robot legs running forward as it shoots. The gun and its introduction quickly became a meme, and the weapon’s flavor text “we gotchu” is a reference to the game’s own trailer.

3Predatory Lending

Shoot Through Your Savings, Literally

This Hyperion SMG declares that “Bullets are cheap, but not that cheap.” That’s because, instead of using actual bullets, this gun fires cash as ammo. This is accompanied by a visual representation of literal coins and money coming out of the gun as you fire, with the gun’s firing rate increasing the longer it’s fired.

The high price of this gun’s ammo is worth it, as the SMG is a powerful one compared to other purple-rarity weapons of the same type. This is definitely not the best gun if you’re short on cash since it goes through money fairly quickly, butit’s a great option for players who are rolling in bills and have nothing left to spend it on.

2Eridian Fabricator

Also Known As The Gun Gun

Most guns shoot ammo, butthe Eridian Fabricator, aka the Gun Gun, shoots guns.Firing this end-gameBorderlands 3gun shoots out 10 different guns of green to purple rarity, consuming 10 Eridium instead of any kind of ammo, as can be seen in the brief clip uploaded to YouTube byElia.

The powerful gun can even shoot out 1-4 legendary weapons for the heftier price of 250 Eridium. The Eridian Fabricator is an excellent example ofthe way theBorderlandsseries plays with the idea of guns. The only thing that would make this gun better is if it did damage to enemies if the guns hit them on the way out.

1Porta-Pooper 5000

It Does Exactly What You Think It Does

The Porta-Pooper 5000 is a rocket launcher that looks like it was pulled out of an actual porta-potty. This might sound like a disgusting comparison, butthe COV weapon fromBorderlands 3, is, in fact, weaponized potty humor. The gun is always irradiated and, according to the flavor text, “never washes out.”

The brown gun shoots projectiles shaped like feces which deal splash damage and leave a radioactive puddle around them. Best of all, the gun occasionally talks, saying lines like “You’re full of cr*p. That’s a compliment!” This ridiculous weapon might be some of the “potty humor” thatBorderlands 4has vowed to cut down on, but gems like the Porta-Pooper 5000 will forever remain one of the legendary weird guns that represent theBorderlandsfranchise.
