What The Bet Trailer Means For The Series
It Stays True To The Original Manga
Adapted for television by Simon Barry, who previously createdNetflix’sWarrior Nunbased on the comic book character created by Ben Dunn,Betalso stays fairly true to the core storyline of the original manga. It’s an over-the-top tale set in an elite private academy where social status hinges on high-stakes underground gambling. The series features dramatic, high-intensity gambling showdowns, which often escalate into violence and death, but is also blended with a prominent streak of lesbian homoeroticism, as seen in the trailer.
Themanga seriesKakegurui, which translates to “Compulsive Gambler” in English, has grown into a full-fledged franchise since its debut in 2014. It’s been expanded to include two anime seasons produced by Studio MAPPA, a live-action Japanese drama, two spin-off manga series, and a pair of live-action films. Netflix’s upcoming English-language live-action series is just the latest adaptation, and while it is aimed at international audiences,it will be the first targeted mainly towards American audiences.

Our Take On The Bet Trailer
Will It Be Netflix’s Next Cowboy Bebop, Or One Piece?
For over a decade,Kakeguruihas delighted fans with its deliciously over-the-top drama, decadent style, and unhinged characters. However, Netflix is taking a gamble with the adaptation ofBetbecause it’s unclear if the campy manga can make the leap to live-action glory likeOne Piece, or if it will becanceled after one season likeCowboy Bebop. If one thing is certain, Yumeko’s poker face is ready.
