Comedy Central was proud to announce that the network will be working with Mike Judge to relaunchBeavis and Butt-Headfor a modern audience.
Beavis and Butt-Headwill be entering “a whole new Gen-Z world,” and early indications show the cartoon will be crafted to appeal both to long-time fans of Judge’s work and to new viewers. Creator Mike Judge will also be voicing the delinquent teens, just as he did before in the 90’s era adult sitcom cartoon.

Beavis and Butt-head originally appeared as a short onLiquid Televisioncalled “Frog Baseball.” That was the beginning of Mike Judge’s amazing comedy career, and he has since been the creative power behind such iconic shows asDaria,King of the Hill, andSilicon Valley. He is also the mind behind the infamous satirical movie,Idiocracy.
Their irreverent style will fit in well with Gen-Z. So-called “digital natives” are intimately acquainted with and adapted to modern technology. Jobs and inequality, inevitably, will be big topics of scrutiny, since approximately a quarter of Gen-Zs (according to Yello) believe they will make at least 60k per year after college, when the reality tends to fall short by about 10k. That fact is closely intertwined withthe issues of systemic racismcoming to the forefront of the collective consciousness in the form of Black Lives Matter.
Fans are also expecting a spinoff ofDariacalledJodie, which focuses on Daria’s friend as she graduates college and enters the working world. Both new series can conceivably be from the same world, just asKing of the HillandDariawere off-shoots ofBeavis and Butt-Head.Therefore, it wouldn’t be a stretch for either of the series to have acrossover episode.
It’s possible the reboot make the list ofMike Judge’s best works, but that has yet to be seen, though it will definitely be worth checking out.
