WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS ahead for Dexter: Resurrection episode 7.

Detective Angel Batista is not holding back in his pursuit to nail Dexter Morgan as the Bay Harbor Butcher inDexter: Resurrection. After a tense confrontation between Angel and Dexter at the end ofDexter: Resurrectionepisode 7, the gloves appear to be fully off as Dexter warns his old Miami Metro colleague, “This won’t end well for you.”

Unfortunately for Batista, Dexter tends to be right about these sorts of things, which is a huge reason why he’s remained mostly undetected and, more importantly, out of prison for decades since his first kill inDexter: Original Sin. While Batista’s heart and sense of justice are in the right place, he iseither seriously underestimating Dexter or is too blinded by vengeance to detect how much of a threat Dexter truly is.

Dexter Didn’t Actually Kill Doakes, LaGuerta Or Deb

Even though Batista is fighting to prosecute Dexter for the death of his Miami Metro colleagues, James Doakes, Maria LaGuerta, and Debra Morgan, he has one crucial piece of information completely wrong. While Dexter was obviously involved, and mostly responsible, for all of their deaths, Dexter didn’t actually kill any of them.

Doakes was killed by Dexter’s love interest Lila in season 2, LaGuerta was killed by Deb, and Deb was technically killed by Oliver Saxon in season 8, even though Dexter pulled her life support as a mercy kill. Dexter is technically responsible for those deaths, but he didn’t personally kill any of them, so it’s becoming ridiculous that they’re the three that Batista is focusing on the most.

As a former law enforcement officer, Batista truly holds no power to enforce the law anymore. Retiring before going after Dexter was a questionable move to begin with, especially since he didn’t bother to tell his associate, Joey Quinn, about his plan.Even if Batista’s badge still held weight, he would never be able to find the evidenceto lawfully take Dexter out.

Will Batista End Up On Dexter’s Table In Resurrection?

Dexter lays all his cards on the table when he tells Batista straight up to stay away from him and Harrison in the chilling closing scene ofResurrectionepisode 7. Batista is protected from Dexter’s Dark Passenger because he doesn’t fit Harry’s Code, although a new amendment may be made if Batista works up a plan to find Harrison guilty of Ryan Foster’s murder.

Regardless of evolving circumstances,Dexter killing Batista would be an enormous deviation for the character and seriesand ultimately would risk erasing all the fantastic development that Resurrection has made for the franchise.

Dexter’s already resorted to methods other than killing to take out his targets this season, such as calling the cops of Lady Vengeance. For this reason, I wouldn’t be surprised if he cleverly frames or discredits Batista somehow, even if that means calling in a favor to his incredibly powerful admirer, Leon Prater, by the end ofDexter: Resurrectionseason 1.
