Leslie Grace’sBatgirlis already one of the most anticipated films of the year, and it appears fans in the UK will have to wait even longer than expected for the DC project. According to Warner Bros. UK,Batgirlwon’t be released until 2023, but it’s currently unclear if this will be the same in the United States.
Atthe timeBatgirlwas announced, the film was touted as an HBO Max exclusive, and while an official release date has yet to be set at this time, reports indicated the Batman sidekick’s solo outing would hit the streamer by the end of 2022. However, not every country in the world has HBO Max, which is where this new theatrical release listing from Warner Bros. UK comes in.

Warner Bros. UK appears to be circulating a new theatrical release listing indicatingBatgirlwill be hitting UK cinemas on an unspecified date in 2023. Of course, the UK is one of the many aforementioned countries without access to HBO Max, so a theatrical release would be one of the few options for Warner Bros. as far as gettingBatgirlout to UK audiences go. As of this writing, there has been no sign that Warner Bros. plans to delayBatgirlto 2023 in the United States. Also unconfirmed is if the studioplans to releaseBatgirlin U.S. theatersas well, either exclusively or concurrently with its HBO Max debut.
Should Warner Bros. decide to releaseBatgirlin theaters instead of HBO Max, it wouldn’t be a choice that comes out of the blue. Warner Bros. Discovery David Zslalav was reportedly considering a theatrical release forBatgirlas recently as April 2022. Furthermore, theWonder Twinsmovie was reportedly canceledpartly because the new leadership at Warner Bros. Discovery wanted all DC film projects to move forward with a “theatrical-first goal” from here on out.
Batgirlreportedly received praiseafter its first test screening, so it would make sense for Warner Bros. to release the film theatrically and rake in that potential box office revenue if they feel they have a hit on their hands. Besides, Batgirl is one of the most iconic characters in DC Comics lore and considering she will be portrayed by Leslie Grace, a woman of color, a theatrical release for the film would bring some much-needed representation to the silver screen.
TheBlue Beetlefilm is heading to theatersafter originally being conceived as an HBO Max exclusive, so fans shouldn’t be surprised ifBatgirlgets the same treatment both in the UK and the United States. Of course, only time will tell.
Batgirldoes not have an official U.S. release date at this time.
