Along with the announcement ofAlien vs. Captain America, Marvel released the synopsis for the series, which reads:

SMASHING THROUGH, CAPTAIN AMERICA COMES FACE TO FACE WITH—ALIENS?!

It’s World War II and Hydra seeks a new weapon to defeat the Allies and win the war. To that end, the Red Skull has sent Baron Strucker on an expedition to the Himalayas to find the fabled city of Attilan. But instead of finding the Inhumans, Strucker uncovers something much more deadly. Much more… Alien. Can Captain America and the Howling Commandoes stop the Skull and his newfound xenomorph weapons… or will the First Avenger learn that in war-torn Europe… no one can hear you scream?

It is a thrilling set up for the story, one that makes perfect use of both Cap’s World War II origin and the Xenomorphs' own origin as a biological weapon. And this is just one of several reasons to get excited about the book.

First, this is the latest sign thatMarvel Comics is being very deliberate about how theyintegrate theAlienfranchise, and its principal attraction, the Xenomorph, into the Marvel Universe. So far, the publisher has picked stories that emphasis how the creature’s horror potential carries over into a superhero context.

Which is why it alsofeels like the right move to make Captain America the Xenomorphs' next target. He is super-strong, agile, and a tactical genius, but he is closer to a baseline human than many of the Avengers, making the Xenomorphs a tangible threat to the hero, at least on a narrative level.

World War II Action And Sci-Fi Gore Collide In Marvel’s Latest Clash Of Immortal Franchises

“Two Of The Most Iconic Properties In Entertainment” Face Off This Fall

Marvel is just coming off author Jonathan Hickman’s critically and commerciallysuccessful run ofAliens vs. Avengers, which was set in a bleak future version of the Marvel Universe, overrun by the Xenomorphs, That series took some wild turns, garnering praise for its inventive interpretation of bothAvengersandAlienlore, and how it remixed the two together.

Marvel fans have an exciting blend of World War II action and sci-fi horror to look forward to with the release ofAlien vs. Captain America.

Alien vs. Captain America, meanwhile, is set in the past, and author Frank Tieri explained why, saying:

Ya know, sometimes a project comes along and you just have to pinch yourself that you get to be involved with it. I mean, here you have two of the most iconic properties in entertainment—Captain America, who is basically the ultimate hero, going against Alien, one of the ultimate names in horror. As a writer, what more can you ask for than that? Now I pitched this knowing I wanted it to be a period piece with WW2 as the backdrop because I knew it would give me so many fun elements to play with… Cap vs the Red Skull, Baron Strucker in the Himalayas looking for Attilan, Bucky interacting with the Howling commandos, Hydra using the Xenomorphs as weapons, etc. We’ve got all that and more as fans can expect a nice mix of horror and heroics… and more than a few surprises thrown in for good measure.

In both cases, the Xenomorphs are not being brought into the mainstream, current-day Marvel Universe.Like the similarPredator vs.series, which has pitted another cinematic extraterrestrial icon against various Marvel heroes, these stories are deliberately self-contained, to their benefit.

So, Marvel fans have an exciting blend of World War II action and sci-fi horror to look forward to with the release ofAlien vs. Captain America, which is set to run for four issues overall. The potential of theAlienfranchisein Marvel Comics has been proven, and nowCaptain Americais ready for an all-time bout against the franchise’s vicious monsters.

Alien vs. Captain America#1will be available in November 2025 from Marvel Comics.
