ARK: Survival Ascendedhas announced an upcoming DLC that will link several of the storylines together, opening up the path for a new game entirely. It’s been a long four years waiting for more content to help bridge the gap and allow room in the franchise for something new. After numerous delays, the release ofARK: Lost Colonycould be a sign thatARK 2is closer than we think.

This DLC will beARK: Survival Ascended’sfirst original expansion, which appears to have a connection to the next game,ARK 2. Setting the stage,Lost Colonywill connect the storylines ofARK’s ExtinctionandGenesisexpansions, which in turn lead to the events of the next full game in the series.

This Expansion Gives Us Eyes Into The Future Of The Franchise

Lost Colonywill be a full expansion ofARK: Survival Ascendedand is planned tofully release in December 2025 for $29.99. The expansion focuses on confronting the demons of Arat Prime, the birthplace of the ARKs. Following in the footsteps of Mei Yin, players will adventure into an icy biome, encountering new creatures and enemies. This could be a refreshing change as, after a few years, encountering the same creatures can begin to feel stale.

Established factions will be battling for control of the city, trying to undo the accomplishments at the end ofARK Extinction. These factions will be Element-powered, and it will be up to you touniteARK’spast with its future.Studio Wildcard is calling this the darkest chapter ofARKto date. It hasn’t been explicitly stated how this expansion will lead to the events ofARK 2. However, it might have to do with moving forward from uniting the past with the future and what thenext step for the factions will be.

Ahead ofLost Colony’s full release, a pass is currently available to gain immediate access to some bonuses. These bonuses will eventually expand further once Lost Colony fully releases in December, but for those with a particular itch to gain access to any content early, the pass may be appealing.

Previously, when you received points as you leveled up, you could distribute them among a few predetermined skills in the menu. A new type of skill tree calledthe Lost Skill Treewill be introduced, allowing further customization of your character’s skill sets.

The path you choose to unlock in the Lost Skill Tree will determine your playstyle. Some skills, such as Heavy Footed, will allow you to reduce your fall damage as well as knock enemies back by 10 meters when you do suffer fall damage. Each skill will cost a certain number of points to unlock. The building system will also feature some new opportunities, andLost Colonywill allow players to craft cursed tiers of gear. There should be a lot to discover in this expansion, and it gives us a taste of what we will receive inARK 2.

This Is The Best Sign That We’re Getting Closer To Ark 2’s Release

This Could Also Be A Sign We Have A Bit Of A Wait Left

MostARKplayers are likely more than ready for something new, and considering it has been announced thatARK: Lost Colonywill lay the groundwork forARK 2, it could mean thatthis expansion will be the final step beforeARK 2is released. After waiting so long, it’s a relief to see a possible light at the end of the tunnel. However, the continuous delays ofARK 2still haven’t been accompanied by sufficient communication. Despite it being 2025, there isno word on whereARK 2is or how much longer we will have to wait.

While this expansion release is a good sign, it could also mean that it is being released tobuy more time forARK 2to be completed. The good news is that we will get some insight into what to expect from the storyline once the next game is officially released. For now,ARK: Lost Colonyis the closest we’ll get to knowing what the future holds for the franchise.
