It’s no secret thatJurassic World Rebirthtakes inspiration from the originalJurassic Parkmovie. All theJurassic Worldmovieshave tried to recapture the magic and wonder of Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film, which revolutionized the industry and how blockbusters are made. The previous films have been hit and miss in their effort to achieve this goal.

Ahead of the release of the franchise’s newest entry, there was hope that it could recapture the feeling of watching the firstJurassic Parkmovie. While Spielberg didn’t return to direct the fourthWorldmovie, David Koepp, who wrote the original film, returned to pen the screenplay.

However, reviews forJurassic World Rebirthhave been mixed-to-negative overall. A common criticism ofRebirthis that it relies too much on nostalgia and tries way too hard to recreate iconic moments from the original movie.

Jurassic World Rebirthtook few riskswith its storytelling, relying on safer measures and familiar elements to act as a homage to the original movie. This included directly recreating some key sequences inJurassic Parkin the latest entry.

5The D-Rex Kills Someone During Jurassic World Rebirth’s Prologue

The first scene inJurassic World Rebirthtakes place 17 years before the events of the rest of the movie. This prologue is set in a secret InGen laboratory on Île Saint-Hubert, which is where the D-rex is held. During this scene,an InGen scientist drops a Snickers bar wrapper, which gets sucked into the ventilation system and triggers a shutdown.

All the InGen employees are forced to evacuate, but the man who dropped the wrapper gets stuck inside a room with the D-rex.This man begs for his coworker to help him open the door as the D-rex sneaks up behind him, but his fellow scientist ultimately leaves him to try to keep the mutant dinosaur contained.

This scene is reminiscent of the opening of the originalJurassic Parkmovie, which seesa Velociraptor attack a dinosaur handler while it is being transported onto the island. This initial attack is the reason why Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm are invited to inspect the original park. Both of these scenes start the movie off with a bang and show how dangerous dinosaurs can be.

4The Characters Admire The Titanosaurus In Jurassic World Rebirth

Years after the InGen employees evacuated the island, the characters inJurassic World Rebirtharrive on Île Saint-Hubert to extract the DNA of the largest dinosaurs of the land, air, and sea. When it comes to land-based dinosaurs,Titanosauruses are by far the biggest creatures on the island in the franchise’s most recent movie.

About halfway through the film,Zora, Henry, and the remaining members of their team walk through a valley and admire the beauty of the Titanosaurus. The iconic score from the originalJurassic Parkmovie blares as they watch two of them mate. Unlike most of the otherdinosaurs inJurassic World Rebirth, the Titanosaurus are peaceful creatures, which makes this scene a welcome break from the movie’s horror and action.

Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali) uses a flare to distract the dinosaurs in Jurassic World Rebirth

This scene is clearly inspired by the Brachiosaurus scene in the originalJurassic Park. While exploring Isla Nublar,Alan and Ellie watch in shock and awe as a Brachiosaurus walks through a field right beside them. They then look in the distance and see several more dinosaurs. While watching the dinosaurs move in herds, Alan can’t help but shed a few tears at their beauty.

Rebirthuses Jonathan Bailey’s character to replicate the feelings of Sam Neill’s, which makes sense givenHenry’s connection to Alan. This is one of the most blatant examples of the new movie recreating an iconic scene from the original film with new characters, dinosaurs, and a setting.

3The Mutadons Attack During Jurassic World Rebirth’s Climax

Mutadons were created by InGen and are a hybrid of Veliciraptors and Pteranodons. At the end of the movie, one of the Mutadons stalks the Delgado family in a gas station while they wait for the helicopter to arrivein a memorable, albeit familiar, scene.

During this scene,Isabella has a close call with a Mutadon and is forced to hide in one of the gas station’s fridges. Thankfully, she makes it back to her family, and they manage to escape into the sewer system below the gas station. Viewers familiar withJurassic Parkwill surely think about the iconic kitchen scene during this sequence.

At the end ofJurassic Park, several raptors find Lex and Tim in the kitchen. The two children are forced to maneuver around the kitchen to avoid detection from the deadly raptors. This is easily the most suspenseful scene inJurassic Park, and Lex and Tim have several close calls with the raptors.

Since the Mutadons are partially raptors, the gas station is filled with aisles and food like the kitchen, and Isabella hides similarly to how Lex does, it’s easy to see how this set piece borrows from the kitchen scene in the original movie.

2Duncan Lures The D-Rex Away With A Flare In Jurassic World Rebirth

After escaping the Mutadons, the characters make it to the dock at theend ofJurassic World Rebirth. They are so close to escaping, but the D-rex catches up with them.To protect the other characters, Duncan lights a flare to lure the imposing dinosaur awayfrom the boat. Since the D-rex is attracted to light, Duncan’s plan works.

Still holding the flare up, Duncan gets in the water and moves further and further away from the others, giving them a chance to escape.Since this scene includes a flare, it can easily be compared to the thrilling T. rex attackin the originalJurassic Park.

In the 1993 film, the T. rex is trying to kill Lex and Tim, who are trapped in a turned-over car. To save the children, both Alan and Ian light flares to draw the T. rex away. Alan lights the first flare, then Ian lights the second one and runs with it to lure the T-rex further away and allow the children to be rescued.

To be fair,Jurassic World Rebirthisn’t the first movie in this franchise to recreate this memorable moment.Jurassic Worldalso included a pivotal scene with a T. rex chasing someone with a red flare, although that time it was to have the dinosaur play the part of a hero and defeat the Indominous Rex.

1The Characters Sail Into The Sunrise At The End Of Jurassic World Rebirth

Even though the D-rex follows Duncan into the water, hedoesn’t die at the end ofJurassic World Rebirth. As the characters are leaving the island, they see another flare shoot into the airin the distance. This prompts them to turn the boat around and pick up Duncan, who is somehow still alive.

After picking him up,Zora, Henry, and the other characters who survived the events ofJurassic World Rebirthsail into the sunrise as the franchise’s theme song plays. After many horrific encounters with the dinosaurs on Île Saint-Hubert, the surviving characters get a happy ending, which mirrors the final moments of the original.

At the end ofJurassic Park,Alan, Ellie, and the other primary characters are rescued from the island by a helicopter and fly into the sunset. Of course,Jurassic World Rebirth’sending switches the sunset for a sunrise, but these endings are undoubtedly incredibly similar.

Some of the films in the series have ended on a cliffhanger, but much like the original,Jurassic World Rebirthprovides us with a pretty definitive ending.
