One of my favorite parts ofBaldur’s Gate 3is how expansive the mod library is, especially when it comes to quality of life improvements that simply make your overall journey way less of a headache. For me, there are certain things that were meant to add a deeper level of immersion but instead feel more like a chore or nuisance, such as tracking down lockpicks.

The mods I’ve included here are focused on UI and quality-of-life improvements above everything else, but this is definitely not an exhaustive list. In my experience, these do not detract from the intended BG3 experience or give players any kind of unfair advantage. In most cases, these mods will simply tweak or improve features that already exist in the vanilla version of the game (i.e. no “cheat” mods).

10Improved UI (ImpUI): Provides Improvements To Overall User Interface

ImpUI Is One Of The Top Mods For A Reason

ImprovedUI, uploaded to Nexus Mods byDjmr, is one of the top downloadedmods forBaldur’s Gate 3, and for good reason. This mod enables general tweaks and improvements to nearly every major aspect of the user interface across the entire game, and it acts as a baseline mod that is required for just about every other mod you’ll download. This mod has opened up a world of possibilities for other mods, andyou’ll see in each specific description if it’s required.

ImprovedUI has needed to be updated after every major patch from Larian, but since Patch 8 is the final major release, the most recent fix seems to be functioning pretty normally across the board. If you’ve already made any UI tweaks,Improved UI is likely already on your list of downloaded mods, but it deserves a spot here, as its creator put in the legwork for every useful mod to come after. Thanks for your hard work over the years, Djmr!

9Adjustable Party Limit: Have Up To 16 Players In Your Party

PixellBytes' Adjustable Party Limit Ensures You’re Never Alone

If you’ve ever felt like the four-character party is incredibly limiting or simply not enough to do everything you want to do,PixellBytes' Adjustable Party Limit is the mod you’ve beenmissing in yourBG3playthrough. This mod enables an adjustable party limit toggle that can be reduced to 1 if you want to add a significant challenge orincreased to 16 if you want to have a massive, unstoppable party.

This is a great mod to shake things up, and it allows you to experiment withdifferent party buildsor get all of your characters in the field at the same time, so youdon’t have to make any difficult choices about which characters to leave back at camp. This is one of my top recommended mods for veteran players looking for a new experience.

8Fade’s Equipment Distribution: New & Improved Gear For You To Discover

This Mod Provides New Gear Immersed Naturally In BG3

Fade’s Equipment Distribution (FED) is a top-downloaded quality-of-life mod that provides some new and improved gear for each class without tipping into the feeling that you’re getting some crazy advantage or even “cheating” to get the upper hand. FED was created byGraphicFadetoadd the creator’s various equipment mods naturally into the gameat various points, though there are other options available that will give you all of this gear right away if you don’t care about the immersive aspect.

You can download each class-specific mod separately if you’re looking for a more targeted approach to usingGraphicFade’sequipment.

This mod will distribute all the specialized class gear from all of GraphicFade’s various class mods into your game, adding a layer of complexity for experienced playerswho want more unique gear options. Each class has its own set of specially designed equipment, and all of it is well worth checking out.

Weighted Gold & Items Can Be Kind Of Annoying

While I understand why Gold and Camp Supply weight is important for immersion and add a slight layer of strategy to how you manage your inventory, after a few playthroughs, it can become quite annoying to watch your weight. Personally,I don’t think removing the weight from Gold gives you an advantage per se,largely just removing what feels like a chore from the game. There are a handful of Weightless Gold mods, but my go-to is fromCurious_Georgeon mod.io.

Weightless Camp Supplies is another mod thatfunctions under the same principle, and it will prevent the annoying extra step of stashing your extraneous camp supplies in a chest to avoid all the extra weight. Inventory management can already be cumbersome enough as it is, so these minor tweaks relieve that strain just a bit.

6Unlock Level Curve: Level Up To 20

This Is Great For An Essential 5e Experience

The Unlock Level Curve mod byCharisis a fun way to mix up your gameplay experience and add a classicD&D5e feel to the game. This mod allows you to level all the way up to 20 in true 5e fashion, with new class features and perks along the way. You won’t be able to reach level 20 with this mod alone, as there simply isn’t enough XP available in the base game, so it willrequire an XP modifier if you want to make it to the top.

Regardless, this mod mixes things up substantially, and even without an XP modifier, it can be fun to try to max out XP in each Act before moving on. There are XP modifiers that won’t give you a ridiculous advantage, but with this mod alone, you’ll still be able to hit level 17.

5No Romance Limit: Don’t Be The Jealous Type

Become Polyamorous Without Any Downsides

One really fun mod is theNo Romance Limit modbywilhelm, which allows you to become polyamorous without characters getting mad or jealous and dumping you. This is a great mod if you’re looking to see what each romance option looks like, and you simply need to be nice to all the characters to see all of their romance scenesinstead of being stuck with just one per playthrough.

Another version of this concept, macrochiroptera’s Polyamory Fixes, actuallyenables you to cast “dating” spellswhich let you toggle relationships with each character. Both of these mods essentially do the same thing, and I’d recommend trying one of them out if you’re interested in seeing thevarious romance optionsinBaldur’s Gate 3without playing through the game multiple times.

4Better Containers & Containers Extended: Improve Your Storage

Containers Can Be Really Clunky In BG3, But These Mods Fix That

The Better Containers mod fromCaitesis a major quality-of-life update that will make your inventory management considerably less of a headache. This mod makes some minor butsignificant tweaks to the vanilla game’s container UI,such as improving how sorting options work and the set size of the container menus. It also makes things easier to drag and drop.

If you’re looking for some of the best mods inBaldur’s Gate 3,Caites has a massive list of some of the top-rated and most-downloaded options.

In addition to this mod, I’d recommend the Containers Extended mod bydarkcharl, which"adds several autosort containers to the game for armor, arrows, books,“etc. This is a simple quality-of-life mod that goes a long way, and there’s even a version that allows you toadd containers to character inventories from the startof the game. There’s also a version that removes weight from items when placed in your containers if you’re looking for something to alleviate even more weight than the aforementioned gold and camp supply weight mods.

3Better Inventory UI: Make Your Inventory Easier On The Eyes

Add Mini Icons & Improved Backgrounds

The Better Inventory UI mod, also byCaites,“makes inventories easier to read and organize.“It also"adds new mini-icons, back- and foregrounds to [distinguish] useful loot from trash.“If you’ve ever strained your eyes to get a closer look at what you’re looking at in your inventory, this mod adds very useful background colors to different types of itemsin your inventory, and it’s a basic quality-of-life mod that I think everyone should add to their list.

This mod allows you to mark off the books you’ve read, distinguish grenades from potions more easily, differentiate instruments from other random objects or trash, and a few other basic backgrounds that will make the game much easier on the eyes. It’s a slight improvement that goes a long way.

2Move Faster: Need I Say More?

Increase Your Basic Movement Speed In The Open World

The Move Faster Mod is about as basic as they come, but it makes a major difference. This mod byzyonsisallows players to move considerably faster outside of combat. It"increases all characters' base run speed from 3.75 m/s to 7.5m/s.“If you’ve ever felt like your party is obnoxiously slowwhile moving around the open world, this mod will literally speed things along.

There’s not much to say other than this mod will save you a lot of time.

The Move Faster mod"also tweaks the acceleration slightly,“giving players a jumpstart when moving from one place to another. There’s not much to say other thanthis mod will save you a lot of timeas you explore every major region and area in the game.

1Eternal Lockpick: One Lockpick To Rule Them All

One Lockpick Is All You’ll Ever Need

The Eternal Lockpick mod byswissfredis one of my favorite mods because it’s so very simple and straightforward but prevents one of the more tedious and annoying happenings in the game, which is running out of lockpicks. At a certain point, running out of lockpicks can be incredibly annoying, even if there are plenty of workarounds. Lockpicks aren’t particularly scarce in the game, but when and if you do run out of them, it can make things much harder than they need to be.

The Eternal Lockpick is a one-size-fits-all solution, and will instantly transfer to whichever character is picking the lock. If you fail the lockpick, this one doesn’t break, and it’s literally the only lockpick you’ll need throughout the entire game. Of all the mods inBaldur’s Gate 3, this one is probably not on most players' radar simply because running out of lockpicks isn’t a major issue in the grand scheme of things. However, it’s a mod that I personally have grown to love for its simplicity and convenience.
